Curriculum
Spanish
At The Country Day School of Colts Neck, our goal is to prepare your child for a successful future. Research shows that learning a second language helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning a second language boosts cognitive development. At The Country Day School, we offer Spanish classes starting in the Tiny Toddler Room because at this young age, children have a natural ability to easily absorb and learn another language. We encourage each child to work through the words and repeat them back to our teachers. We intend for this to be educational but also stress the importance of having fun in a brand new way! Your child will speak, sing, dance, and listen to stories all while learning a brand new skill.
Music
At The Country Day School, Mr. Rob from Miss Melissa Aardvarks comes in to dance, clap, sing, and play instruments with the children! Music is beneficial for so many reasons, but most importantly, the children love it! Music allows children to develop their vocabulary and further the development of their fine motor skills. Additionally, music allows children the opportunity to engage and play with their classmates in a new, collaborative way. Music incites your child’s body and mind, helping to promote brain connectivity. Each student leaves music class feeling a sense of achievement and excitement about all that they’ve accomplished!
Frog Street Threes
Our Toddler classrooms use Frog Street Threes Curriculum to encourage our students on the road to success. This innovative curriculum develops social and emotional intelligence with a focus on thematic lesson plans, rotational activities, and positive learning. Each day, students will be introduced to early math and language concepts, as well as motor skills practice, through the use of song, small-group instruction, and individualized learning. We know every child is unique and Frog Street Threes’ adaptive curriculum ensures every child receives the necessary tools for academic advancement.
The Letter People
The Preschool and Pre-K Classrooms start each week welcoming a new friend from the Letter People Puppets. Ms. A, commonly known as Ms. A’choo greets the class along with her friends, Mr. B with his beautiful buttons, Mr. C and his colossal cap, Mr. D who loves to dance and so many more! The children enjoy playing and interacting with all of the letter people while learning their letters in a fun and creative way.
Handwriting Without Tears
In our Preschool Classroom, we continue to introduce handwriting through the Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum. This curriculum offers multi-sensory strategies and materials to teach pencil grip, letter formation and the literacy skills that are needed for learning to write properly.
Singapore Math
Our Pre-K classrooms also incorporate Singapore Math Curriculum into academic learning. This curriculum focuses on a mastering of concepts rather than plain memorization. Instead of relying on repetition and recitation, our students are challenged to think and apply concepts that they have already learned to new situations. With a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, our students gain the confidence they need to reach their highest potential.
